The BERLIN DRUM EXPERIENCE was born in 2013 when Marco moved to Berlin (due to a collaboration with a band that discovered him on YouTube and then hired him in the city, working together with platinum producers such as Jeff Blue - Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit - and James Sanger - U2, Madonna, Roxi Music, Joe Satriani). Unfortunately that band never really took off, but Marco stayed in Berlin, making it his new and beloved artistic home.
Enough about me, and more about you! Keep browsing the website and let's smash those drums!

GUT REACTION is a performative ensemble based in Berlin and touring worldwide. The company, founded by the drummer MARCO RIVAGLI and the choreographer GIULIA MANDELLI in January 2015, has been experimenting with ways to combine the art of contemporary dance with the visceral energy of playing the drums. In addition to experimenting with the trinity of forms Percussion, Dance and Theatre, each piece created by GUT REACTION seeks to interrogate the structure and boundaries of human minds, bodies, and emotions. The unique style that characterizes them, leads the audience on a journey into the most improbable imaginings through an investigation where theatre, body movement, music and rhythm collide.

Short and sweet: I talked with Marco just as I moved to Berlin but I never committed to trying a lesson. Fast forward 8 months later, I contacted him again, and it's probably the best thing I've decided to do in Berlin. Great teacher, wonderful person, and.... yeah. :D JOIN USSSSS

The teachers at BDE are highly skilled and knowledgeable. They have a great love and enthusiasm for drumming, and they are tireless in their efforts to teach and inspire students of all ages. As they adjust to each student’s individual learning needs and pace, they also challenge students to spur growth and self-awareness. Learning with teachers at BDE means being exposed to all aspects of becoming a complete drummer and musician. Don’t expect lessons to be easy, but do expect that lessons will be full of wonder. It is important to teachers at BDE that students have fun while learning. It is a superb teaching philosophy that makes drumming stick. Learning at BDE has effectively heightened my musical awareness and elevated the joy that I find in music. Thank you, Marco and Nahuel!

I consider myself very lucky to find such a gem in Berlin. Whatever I wished in a music teacher is combined in Marco. Passionate, energetic, creative, encouraging, limit-pushing and yet so humble that he even allow his students to use his own studios 24/7!! THIS IS GOLD !!! The reviews I read before trying one of his classes were so good that I was almost suspicious. And here I am right now, writing the same thing with no exaggeration. If you are in Berlin and you are looking for a drum teacher, do yourself a favour and take an introductory session with him. You will be hooked unless you are an alien. Even aliens like him. Happy drumming !!!

This was a great experience for me and my partner! We loved every single moment of it and three hours flew by in a blink! Marco is a great teacher and can infuse you with his passion for music, teaching us the basics and showing us what is possible, blowing our minds with his talent! The room itself was very suggestive, full of art, great audio set and armed with two drum kits sounding amazing! I totally recommend this experience to anybody, couples or singles. If you love music, you're gonna love this!

Great teacher. I think of myself as pretty untalented as far as music goes but Marco manages to teach me stuff still. Absolutely would recommend no matter whether you wanna become a great professional drummer or just an annoying amateur drumming neighbor.
β β β β β Alexey
As I met Marco, I thought he is a great drum player and teacher. That's it. Some lessons after I've realized, that this person permanently keeps blowing my mind every time we have a lesson/session. Drums are parts of his body. Without drums he is a philosopher. Playing drums means for him to communicate with nature, interactively. Even if you think you are not-a-drum(or music)-person, but you still would love to touch the world of rhythms and music - Marco is the One you need! Promise!

Great teacher with big heart for drum!!! Keep on drummin leute!

Whether you are an already experienced drummer, or a beginner, or you never even heard about drums, this is the right place to grow and develop the passion for the instrument and for music in general. Marco is always putting 300% of his energies in the lessons and outside of the lessons to help you find your own way and method through this awesome drumming universe.
β β β β β Manuel
Full energy and passion in every lesson with Marco! Every time is an experience that goes beyond the drums and inspires me to discover new genres and artists. Highly recommended!!

Marco is simply the best! I'm plying drums since over 15 years and in various bands, had a few teachers as well but I never came across such an complete drummer and teacher. His approach to drums, music and life itself is great and unique! And it's so much fun, absolute recommendation from my side :)

Marco is passionate, his drum teaching skills are great and also he has to offer what all the real good drumming platforms (which i use and like a lot) lacks: he is an artist in person, he is present for you, he sees you and helps. He is enthusiastic about all styles and seems to see a fun challenge in everything. The community is fun. You can connect and everyone is supportive. Happy to have found that: a very good possibility to build creativity on knowledge and be more creative in the future. Thank you to Nahuel for practice pad opportunities as well good and even digital very personal too.

BDE is really above expectations!!!! I highly recommend drumming with Marco, Nahuel, Giulia, and also all their drummer students, no matter how well you play drums. Personally, I was a beginner. I have always wanted to try, but didn't have the opportunity before coming to Berlin. I had a blast with the BDE team. First lesson with Marco, I was already playing along some songs, and I enjoyed sooooo much!!! 1week later I was drumming during the Friday jam session (true!) The dream is still going on after a few months. Quick progress to be expected! I'll definitely keep on playing with them and I am more and more motivated as I discover new grooves! I have to admit, I have been playing the guitar for 20 years but I think I now prefer drums... But what's more, beyond just playing drums, they really make you live a real and unique experience. I highly value the meet ups that they organize, the practice sessions through zooms, the jam sessions, the answers we get to our questions no matter when we ask the question, the discord that they manage to always get new content, new challenges, new surprises, and they always keep the community of drummers up to date about the news of the drumming school! They also invest a lot in infrastructure for us to be able to practice anytime (I personally love the early morning sessions). All teachers are highly skilled, creative, nice, generous, really good teachers. They will adapt to your needs and listen to you requests if you have some (for me, I have asked for additional lessons and they manage to find time for it). They will make sure you never get bored! Finally, even the administrative part is super smooth and easy thanks to Erika who manages the schedule. (I was not paid to write this message I promise ahah I looove BDE <3) One last thing, DRUM ON!!

BEST TEACHER EVER. Marco made me fall in love with drumming instantly. He knows how to balance between being an amazing friend and a super passionate teacher. I have learned so much on music and on life since I know him. There is always a big smile on my face and my head is filled with music ideas when I leave the lesson. Everybody should at least try one lesson with him and you'll get hooked. He loves his students and wants to push them higher and higher every time he can. We have a beautiful drummer community and know all of each other since he organizes drummers meet up every month (those are the best). The lessons that he designs are so intense and powerful, where we learn theoretical to practical drumming for hours. The way he teaches is unique for every student and he really knows how to trigger passion and envy in anyone of us. BEST TEACHER EVER.

Just started out taking lessons with Marco. I've seen quite a few drum teachers before since I have been playing the drums for...well...what cay I say: I started when I was a kid and now my hair turns grey. Having said that, I'm impressed by Marco's take on teaching. He's really into it, has both the technique and the wisdom, and provides his scholar community with much more than one can take. He's never short on ideas, methods and material. He'll never lose focus on what can be useful in a musical situation (since he himself is a working drummer), but he will also have a sharp eye on the foundations needed to pull it off. This will make sure that he will find the right approach for mostly any challenge - be it beginner level, intermediate or advanced. Of his many qualities I'd like to highlight two: 1) He obviously takes teaching seriously and seems to like it. I never got the impression that he wants to get though the lesson as some sort of "daytime job" to do what he even likes more (which is playing the drums, of course). 2) He has got opinions that allow him to challenge the "eternal truths" of learning the drums (rudiments, stick control, playing with a metronome, practice plan, odd times ... you name it). As a result, he will get you - for example - off the first three pages of stick control or other locked-in situations. What is stunning is that he will provide quite a lot of infrastructure. He offers a really comfy room full of gear an learning material his students can use for practice. This alone makes his package worthwhile. Have I mentioned that it is ... fun?

It's amazing when you realize you can play a beat, even if very easy, after your very first class! Marco's method and attitude give you a totally different perspective on the act of playing drums. It's literally an experience, a great one which I highly recommend to music lovers!

Marco has all the qualities of a great teacher. He is friendly, inspiring, has a deep knowledge of his craft and makes you feel confident no matter what your current level is. If you are passionate about the drums I would highly recommend him!
β β β β β Zhuo Won’t be more thankful to myself for choosing Berlin Drum Experience! HAHA! And of course shout out to Marco and the lovely drummer community that he built up, feels like home since day one. Marco is very enthusiastic and skilled, he creates a nice environment for letting us grow. Except normal class, students also have the access to his own studios so we could always practice with the real drum without killing the neighbours. Once in a while you will also have class in his recording room, where you gonna make your songπ₯π₯π₯ so happy that I found Berlin Drum Experience. Drum on!!

There are few better experiences than the Berlin Drum Experience. Led by the amazing individual Marco who has built a warm and friendly community of talented and passionate drummers. If you’re a seasoned musician or a complete beginner, I can’t recommend this highly enough!! I had lessons with Marco for 8 months and it catapulted my philosophy of the instrument, technical ability and values as a musician. It is one of the best uses of time, money, dedication and energy out there!
β β β β β Anatoli
Thanks Marco! It was amazing time. First lesson took almost four hours of exploration and discovery of my abilities to play drums moving the boundary of my mind and open up. The lesson is a mix of theoretical explanation, and practical drumming and even improvisation. was nice to see him playing and giving good examples . you say after this to yourself “Great i want to be like this at some point” and want to practice more. Marco is really dedicates his time and talent. He has direction to open student minds . its was fun . next time i am back to Berlin i ll be there again.

I can’t imagine a better drum experience Marco is not just a teacher, he is more like a mentor who really supports you to develop and express yourself ! Already after my first mind blowing class I felt like I’ve been reborn. What a passionate and beautiful soul! His classes are always the highlight of my busy weeks!

Spent about 5 hours with Marco this last Sunday. I am still looking for the words to describe the “experience” I went through. WOW to the power of 100 is what comes to my mind. Although I barely know how to play the drums yet, I felt like a rock star!!!
β β β β β Thibaud
Excellent, passionate, and really involved drum teacher ! I recommend even if you already have the “basic knowledge” in drumming, he will make you improve in many ways.
Absolutely love Marco classes. He is not a typical teacher, he really cares that you become a better drummer and enjoy the process.
β β β β β Luciano
I joined the family in December and I couldn’t be more happy! Marco and Nicola are very well prepared teachers, amazing drummers and really in love with drums. You could talk with them about music for hours! Also in lockdown period, online lessons work very well. On top, Marco shares tons of teaching material and since February teacher Nahuel teach a daily (yes daily) class of routines and rudiments. Also it is amazing the drums community that Marco has been able to create. Last but not least, the possibility to have a 24/7 studio where to practice (of course not in lockdown period)
β β β β β Ajit
I went to his first trial class to decide whether drums is the right musical instrument for me. At the end of the class, he made me fall in love with drumming. His passion for drums and teaching inspires me every time. We also have a practice room accessible 24/7. The drum community is fantastic and we have regular events. If you want to learn or get better at drums, then he is the guy
β β β β β Richard
Aside from being a terrific musician, Marco is just as interested in helping you find your own voice on the kit as he is with teaching you technical concepts. Really great experience with a nice community of students. Would for sure recommend for anyone looking for a drum teacher in Berlin.
β β β β β Thomas
Probably the best thing that happened to me. Marco is not only your teacher, he is your friend, your guide and will expend you way of thinking, through drumming. After every lesson you’ll get better. He’s energy and passion give you the will to go forward and learn more! I definitely recommend it!
β β β β β Dodie
I couldn't be happier with my experience so far having Marco as a drum teacher. He really goes the extra mile for all of his students, and makes you feel like a drummer from day 1! It's amazing to see someone with such an energy and passion for music, which is so infectious. He really caters for such a variety of needs and teaches everyone in an individual and personal way. An amazing teacher, musician and friend, as well the best drum community in town!
β β β β β Katja
Best drum teacher ever. Inspiring and passionate about teaching. Not only he designs an individual program for every student, he also helps you to truly fall in love with drums and music in general. I’ve been with him for more than a year now and I can say that I’ve not only progressed with my musicality and techniques but I gained a real friend that always has time for me and my ideas no matter how busy his teaching and performing schedule is. I’m in love β€οΈ

Awesome place to learn drums. The teacher is energetic and skillful master of his art. Apart from lessons you will get also space for practice, meet lots of drummers and have fun!
β β β β β Samy
Marco must be the best drum teacher in town. Not only he teaches the arcanes of drumming, he also gives very precious advices about how to approach the instrument through a lifelong process made of self-teaching methods.
Of course, he is a friendly and lovely character and he is always ready to invest more time than planned for motivated students, so go for it !
β β β β β Luka
Marco is a fantastic teacher who knows how to approach each person in regards of their physical shape and mental understanding of music and sound. He always takes the extra mile to help you learn and help you broaden your musical horizons. Next to lessons he also created a fantastic community of drummers who regularly get together on meetups. Drums can be an intimidating instrument to approach, but with Marco's thoughtful methods, after a few weeks of class you will find yourself with a completely new way of musical expression.

Great drum teacher, very experienced and passionate about his work. I've only had a few lessons so far, but already it's been super helpful!!

Marco is a very friendly instructor with a huge passion towards music & drumming. Berlin Drum Experience is definitely a huge recommend :)
β β β β β John
Just the most passionate and dedicated teacher I've ever encountered. Marco really cares about the power of music and wants everyone to have the chance to have it in their lives. Berlin Drum Experience isn't just about tuition (although it's proven to be the best tuition I could even imagine) but a supportive community of musicians of all levels, backgrounds and ambitions, learning, playing and enjoying the collective experience of art. It's ace and you should join, whoever you are.
β β β β β Adam
Not only is Marco an outstanding drummer – playing with huge bands such as The Fuzztones (and smaller ones like PLeaSureDomE) – he’s also a passioned teacher of all things drumming related. His dancing experience from percussive dance theatre ensamble Gut Reaction is another experience Marco can draw on to create an even better drum learning experience. The legendary drum student meetups alone makes it worth the time and effort to take Marco's drum lessons.
β β β β β Vyacheslav
It's hard to find a person who is more passionate about the stuff that he is doing. What I love about Marco is that he not only teaches, but teaches how to teach yourself :) I think it's very essential and you become much more efficient in the long run
β β β β β Kàtia A.
Awesome teacher, he really loves music and teach his students with so much love! I started my classes last week and cannot stop thinking about drums. When you start he provides a lot of materials and you are added into a chat with a lot of students, they also have always drums meetups, I highly recommend! :))
β β β β β Nektarios
Marco has been my teacher for a year now. He's an amazing teacher, an easy-going person with a funny personality, very passionate and really loves what he does. He creates a family environment with all the students by gathering, playing and sharing our common passion. He has a great ability in explaining rhythm and technique. His approach to drums is to evolve and develop each student according to the student's personal abilities and taste.
I highly recommend to start drum lessons with Marco even if you're total beginner or a pro. Marco will make you shine and "smash it" on the drums.

From day one that I met Marco he gave me for the first time in my drummer’s life an impression what the cosmos in a drummer’s life can look like.
I came to meet him in a situation that can be described as a baby who´s soul is waxed in fear and terror – I was only able to hit the drum (90%) and not playing the drum (10%). I almost was mistreating the drum set. But for my excuse in punkrock there is a high developed aggression against everyone and everything. Marco in the first place is a drummer an educator and an artist, performer as he says so and in addition to that he is to me also a helping hand that shows me the way out of a swamp that I was sticked in. As far as I can tell after three lessons with Marco is that his idea of being a drummer means that you be aware of the responsibility a drummer has for himself and for the people that he is with. So, he starts to make me understand that in first place a drummer wants to communicate with other people, musicians, audiences, or even the world and express his inside to anyone who is listening. And to do so the first step is to learn words in drums pace – I am like a baby that starts blabbering and learn who to speak with words – so Marco uses a word like – tsching – when you play the snare and - took – when you for example hit the frame of a tom – this is an important lesson that will probably lead me sometime into a situation that will give me the ability to express my ideas and fantasies on a drum set (by the way I haven´t found my own words yet with which I am confident but I am sure I will find them – they don´t have to be the same that Marco is using but there are so many languages in the world of drummers cosmos and every other drummer will understand them)– I think when you start learning words it will lead you to sentences with which a drummer can talk to the people who are listening. Like a pianoplayer plays piano a drummer plays a drum set and a drummer is responsible for the band´s dynamic and make the people move and groove. So when I started to listen to Marcos idea of being a drummer I first had to learn to count 1,2,3,4 - 1,2,3,4, it is the mathematic frame which is a sterile but necessary lesson to learn – second lesson was learning algebra which are the diddles and paradiddles and paraparadiddles and flams which are also sterile but necessary. Third lesson is to learn words that will help you in some time to compose and express your own impressions and ideas on a drum set and from that point on you just learn to leave all the sterile exercises alone and let your fantasy and your own cosmos become sound. So drumming is an education to fantasy it is a journey into your artistic soul that can be digged out of the dark. And Marco is the one who does educate and shows me a culture of love and happiness every drummer can lean on. I remember that he also gave me a historical frame from where the drum set came from so Marco is definitely also sophisticated, empathic, spiritual, and has some kind of a third eye with which he can look into my dark soul and a cosmos of which I do not have an idea yet. And there is still more to come. With his joy he gives me a kind of sensitivity to listen deeper into what a drummer is talking about and I still want to listen for more stories to come.
